Ventnor Winter Gardens

We have today (Wednesday 20th April) been told that we have been unsuccessful in our community bid to run the Ventnor Winter Gardens.

We understand that Robert Thompson and the Hambrough are in negotiation with the Council to reopen the building and we'd like to wish them all the best in their endeavours, and would ask the people of Ventnor to give their support to their plans.

If the negotiations with Robert are not successful the Council have told us "we would have no hesitation in reverting to you as one of the unsuccessful bidders to ascertain whether your interest in the building may be resurrected" -so there is a slim possibility that we may still be asked to take over the building at a later stage.

The Rescue Group would like to thank everybody who has supported us over the last three months. It has been an interesting time and we really felt we had come up with a plan that would work for the Winter Gardens.

We have been amazed at the support that we have been shown by the town and would like to thank everybody who has pledged money or effort to help us.

The best thing is that someone is going to take the building forward and we should now all look forward to the reopening and restoration of the Winter Gardens as soon as possible.
